The History
Veliko Tarnovo is the most Bulgarian town, as some say. Capital of Bulgaria through the Second Kingdom, this town is definitely has the most glorious past in the country. It is a symbol of Bulgarian statehood and source of national pride of every Bulgarian. Every street, every house, each pebble is a history, a mark of majesty and unseen beauty, hospitality and great human will.
The earliest evidence of establishment were found on the hill of Trapesitsa, dating back the 3rd millennium BC.
The origin of the name is closely related with Slavonic word “trun” (thorn), which had changed through the years and became Tarnovo. Veliko in Bulgarian means Great, illustrating the beauty, size and magnificence. In the 1187 the uprising of brothers Asen and Petar was successful, Byzantine rule was thrown off and Turnovgrad (Veliko Tarnovo’s old name) became the capital of the restored Kingdom. The following two centuries were golden time for the town.

Veliko Tarnovo is located on the Sofia-Varna highway, just in the heart of Bulgaria and Stara Planina mountain range. Having this important location, the historical heritage and unparalleled beauty, Tarnovo is becoming more and more of a solid ground for investments.
